NRO drafted to restore democracy

ISLAMABAD: The much-debated NRO was drafted to rescue democracy at a crucial juncture when major party leaders were out of the country and the nation was facing a miserable situation, PPP Information Secretary Fauzia Wahab said on Monday. She said the NRO was an agreement through which Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif returned to Pakistan and former president Pervez Musharraf resigned as the army chief. "The PPP didn't request Musharraf to promulgate the NRO. It was his own need," Fauzia said. app
